Tesla may have won their battle with the state of California and resumed production in Fremont. However, that doesn’t mean everything is going smoothly.
The facility had switched their focus right to building the Model Y before everything was shut down. Now that production has resumed, the company is enduring a slow start. Like other models before, Tesla simply can’t seem to produce enough Model Y cars to meet demand.
According to a Bloomberg report, Elon Musk has decided to personally walk the production floor in an attempt to get things moving.
Tesla Inc.’s Elon Musk told employees the electric-car maker is having issues boosting output of its new Model Y crossover and said he’ll be walking the assembly line on a weekly basis to troubleshoot production snafus.
“We are doing reasonably well with S, X and 3, but there are production and supply chain ramp challenges with Model Y, as is always the case for new products,” Musk wrote in an internal email sent Saturday and seen by Bloomberg News.
Bloomberg also pointed out that Tesla believes the Model Y will eventually outsell all other models.
Whether Musk’s presence on the factory floor actually helps or not, this is a scenario that Tesla is familiar with. They famously struggled to meet demand with other models — especially the Model 3. On the other hand, they mostly managed to fix those issues eventually. The Model 3 is their biggest success story and their stock value has skyrocketed in the past year.
Assuming they can replicate that success with the Model Y, it could be another huge win for the iconic EV maker.
