Ford has finally unveiled the brand new 2021 F-150 pick-up truck. It’s the first redesign of the best-selling truck in six years, adding another generation to the already legendary workhorse. The new version is being marketed as both rugged and sophisticated. It will still haul your work equipment around. However, now it makes for a pretty functional mobile office — a necessity for many in today’s connected world. Here’s your first look at the 2021 Ford F-150. Loads of Technology
With the 2021 model, Ford has focused on connectivity. It’s a huge boost to a vehicle that has topped North American sales every year since 1977. Accordingly, the new F-150 features loads of technology features. Highlghts include over-the-air updates, an eight-inch (or larger) touchscreen, more computing power, and an integrated smartphone app that displays all the truck’s cameras on a handheld device.
Ford said that the goal for the F-150 is to turn its most popular vehicle into a mobile office. Anyone who works on the go should be impressed by the newest F-150.
Engine Options
Under the hood, the F-150 comes with numerous engine options. These include six engine configurations, all paired with a ten-speed automatic engine. There is, of course, both rear-wheel or all-wheel drive capability. The base engine is a 3.3-liter V6. The next step up is a 2.7-liter turbo V6 engine. There’s also a 3.5-liter turbo V6 that’s supplemented by a 47-horsepower electric motor, fed by a 1.5-kwh lithium-ion battery tucked underneath the floor.
That’s right, the 2021 F-150 is available with a full hybrid powertrain. It’s the first one ever offered by Ford in a pickup truck. Ford said a fully electric version of the F-150 is coming soon. However, they didn’t provide a specific date.
Heavy Duty Features for a Workhorse Truck
In addition to the new technology features, the 2021 F-150 also boasts numerous standard upgrades. For example, there’s an in-vehicle generator (with multiple power plugs) in the bed, a workbench tailgate, fold-flat center console, and airplane-style fold-flat front seats that essentially create a sleeper seat inside the truck.
The F-150’s interior also has new touchscreens in the center of the truck. There are still hard knobs and buttons for vehicle functions and climate controls. The interior also features vinyl seats and plastic, with leather upholstery an optional upgrade.
All F-150s have a functional layout, with big controls and gauges. Trucks upgraded with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster are even better. There’s plenty of leg room inside the new F-150 and lots of storage space.
Trimlines and Pricing
The 2021 F-150 will be on sale this fall. It will be offered in XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum, King Ranch and Limited trimlines. There are plenty of options available for all versions, including powertrains, bed lengths, cab configurations, and lots of convenience features.
Prices haven’t been announced yet, but analysts say to expect the 2021 F-150 to be sold for between $45,000 and $60,000 depending on the trimline chosen. If you choose the highest end trim and a bunch of options, don’t be surprised to see the price climb up towards six figures.
