People devoted to Tesla electric vehicles are sometimes said to be part of a social cult. Or maybe it’s more of a cult of personality, that worships the company’s charismatic founder Elon Musk. If that describes you and you’re currently single, we have great news. Now there’s an app for that.
A new Tesla Dating app has been developed. It promises to connect like-minded Tesla fans for the purposes of courtship and romantic relationships. That’s right, there is now a dating app to connect people who love their Teslas. Maybe they will even come to love another human being too!
In an interview with Business Insider, the app’s creator Ajitpal Grewal said he was inspired to create the dating site by the “weird obsession among Tesla owners.” He figured why not connect people who couldn’t stop talking Tesla with each other?
“You Can’t Spell Love Without EV”
Grewal has, apparently, leaned into the dating app. The website touting the app calls it, “The Dating App for Tesla Owners.” That’s followed by the cheesy line, “because you can’t spell LOVE without EV.” Several sample conversations between fictional app users include bio mentions such as “Looking for adventures and fun…” Another sample has a text thread between two Tesla fans: “Your eyes are as blue and beautiful as the deep metallic blue exterior on your Model X.” We’re not sure whether that’s cute or cringe worthy, to be honest. Then again, we don’t drive a Tesla.
We’re not really sure how seriously you’re supposed to take the Tesla dating app. However, the app appears to be a lot like Tinder, Bumble, or other popular dating apps. Instead of swiping left or right, users hit either a big red “X” or a green circle that resembles the old iPhone “Home” button. Like other dating apps, if two people share an interest in each other, the app will connect them to a text conversation to make introductions.
Beneath every user’s photo is a Tesla-style rendering and description of their car. Yes, you must actually own a Tesla to be on the dating site — being a fan isn’t enough.Beneath all the critical Tesla information is a short personal bio area. In that space, users can jot a few interesting details about themselves and what they’re looking for in another person. In addition to them also owning a Tesla,of course.
